Kodream developed an extremely fashionable new machine: Improv.
I think not only people familiar with programming or linguists keen on Chomsky and generative grammar will like it. Here are two example songs for the machine.

Important: Unzip Songs and .gram files to one folder.

FCUT.BMX
Open Improv's "Assign Machine Edit Grammar" then enter "fcut.gram" in File-colum + press load befor playing the song.

Infector's Cutoff is modulated by Improv patterns.
->one fine thing about Improv seems the automatized alternations of sub-patterns, e.g. different rules for one S. that are swapped each time the pattern is triggered:

Here's an example for an filter-gapper:

1. Assign Improv to the filter-cutoff of Infector.
2. Define a rule for S (say, A), then a second (called B). "S_>A"; "S_> B"
3. Define A: "A_> a b a b a b a b" This is your first rhythm pattern.
4. Define B: "B_>b a b b a a b a" This is your second rhythm pattern.
5. Give a the value 80
6 Give b the value 150

Now Improv plays firstly A (a b a b a b a b, or, in values 80 150 80 150 80......), then B (b a b b a a b a), then A, then B etc.

ALTERNATE.BMX
Important: Open Improv's "Assign Machine Edit Grammar" then enter "alternate.gram" in File-colum + press load befor playing the song.

Second example. Improv feeds Infector with some variating patterns.

very good article but one thing, in Katta_Improv_fcut.bmx - the patterns for infector contain cutoff values, so you don't get the full effect of the improv peer effect :) ... Katta_Improv_alternate.bmx is a reaally good example of how to use the improv for note improvisation with a 'wet' and 'dry' ... thanks katta and KoDream! 2004-03-01 by noolout (Voted 10 for this review!)
