Reduced Latency for audio drivers
I'm getting about 25ms latency from midi-in to audio-out on my current setup on a setup than can support 2ms(!!) latency when running DirectMusic Producer 8.1. 25ms is ok, I suppose, but it still feels like playing a piano with mitts on to me.
I was speaking with a Microsoft DirectX developer about how they got such great latency on the new DirectMusic Producer. Their trick is to dynamically adjust the latency by adaptively chasing the write cursor (thereby "learning" the system's characteristics wrt/ system-scheduler/interrupt overhead/hardware jitter).
If anyone thinks that there are no other impediments to acheiving this kind of latency with Buzz I might take a kick at this one myself.
I've tried the ASIO drivers; they're better (can't tell how good), but still not magnificent.
