| Generator that sounds like the hindu sitar |
| | You can obtain that sound using some effects, but it does not sound so "natural" so I think it would be good there be one. |

| 2001-11-01: if you want a real sound you should get a real sitar and send it to Zephod for him to model. you can't model one unless you have one. by clatter |
| | 2001-11-01: I'm seeing this all over the place.... let it rest that there is essentially no point in trying to synthesize real instruments. a synthesizer is meant to sound like a synthesizer (leads, pads, blips, sound effects, etc.), and there is no point in spending hours and dollars working on software to imitate a sitar when the solution is obvious: get a sitar. further, the sound of a sitar is determined not just by its timbre but by the scale(s) to which it is tuned. replicating these scales would require essentially redeveloping the entire way in which buzz works. by eidolon |
| | 2001-11-01: and a sitar is one of the most complicated instruments..i wouldn't be worth the trouble coding or the cost in cpu..
get some samples or get sitar by phunktion |
| | 2001-11-03: I agree, about how it can be unproductive to keep trying to model acoustic instruments.. but I've heard NI's Absynth model of this instrument, and it sounds GREAT..(but I don't have $300 or whatever) Think of all the creativity that can result from trying to model a sound we wouldn't normally associate with buzz.. PS, samples suck, my friend! also: "a synthesizer is meant to sound like a synthesizer.." A good majority of those "synth" sounds probably started out as models of acoustic instruments.. by spiralsource |

YOU make it.

| | 2001-12-04: yeah -- the whole point of synthesis is to attempt to mimic live instruments. that's what the word means. what would be really nifty, however, is a sympathetic vibrations effect unit, which would add the sound of sympathetic strings to whatever signal was being sent through it. that should be fairly simple (at least as compared to modeling an entire instrument) and that coupled with geonik's plucked string sythesizer, could make some sitar type sounds....
